Minister for Environment of the Republic of Kazakhstan Mr. Nurlan Kapparov stated on Friday that Kazakhstan may face critical shortage of water by the middle of this century.

Addressing to the conference “Creation of green economy in Kazakhstan” in Astana, N. Kapparov said that as of today about the half of water sources of Kazakhstan come from the neighboring countries.

By 2050 the volume of transboundery waters will be reduced due to the fact that neighboring countries will increase the water consumption for own agricultural and industrial needs and decrease of water flow to Kazakhstan, Mr. N. Kapparov noted.

In the words of the Minister, inflow of water to Kazakhstan will continue approximately up to 2030.
